BEVAGNABevagna, at 29 km from Petrata Castle, has Roman origins even though it has clearly undergone the influence of the medieval period. Worth visiting are the Gothic Palace of San Silvestro in piazza Silvestri. And the palace of Saint Michael Archangel. The medieval doors of the city have been well conserved thanks to the many works of restoration that have been performed, among which, that of 1797 on Porta San Venanzo. As well as these medieval features you can see other traces of antiquity such as the remains of a temple from the II century d.C. over which the medieval church named Madonna della Neve ( the Madonna of the Snow) was later built. FOLKLORISTIC EVENTS The Market of the “Gaite” ( June), during this festival medieval daily life is evoked, the city is divided into four parts, each of which commits itself to the organisation of craft workshops, typical medieval markets and taverns where you can taste dishes prepared according to antique Umbrian recepes. OTHER EVENTS The Race of Crist Resurrected takes place on Easter morning in the Church of San Michele. L’Agosto Bevante ( Bevagna August) proposes a series of cultural and religious events in name of Beato Giacomo Bianconi. |
