FOLKLORISTIC EVENTS
The Descent of the “Ceri” (1st Sunday of May). In occasion of the celebration of the Patron Saint of Gubbio, three giant “ceri” or candles are brought into the city from the church of Saint Ubaldo, which houses them during thr rest of the year.
The “Corsa dei Ceri” Gubbio, (15 May) is one of the oldest folkloristic festival in Italy.
It is an appointment to which the “Eugobini” are dedicated, renewing their devotion to the saint, the bishop Ubaldo Baldassini.
Corsa dei Ceri mezzani Gubbio (the Sunday following the 15th of May). This is a scaled down version of the original event, where Gubbio’s youth repeat the famous race, giving life to an equally exciting spectacle.
The Crossbow competition, the last Sunday of May) is a tradition going back to 1100: a competition with weapons which takes place in the evocative Piazza Grande among flag waving and trumpet playing.

Little Ceri, Gubbio (2nd of June) . This is a scaled down version of the original Corsa, in which the participants are children, who, acting out the famous race, give life to an equally spectacular festival.

The Palio of the Quarter (14 of August). This is a crossbow competition, accompanied by a costumed procession where the “flag-throwers of Gubbio” exhibit their skills. There are gastronomic stalls and and music in the squares and quarters.

The lighting of the World’s Tallest Christmas Tree, (7th of December). In 1991 this tree entered the Guiness Book of Records thanks to its size: On its tip, a shooting star, 20 metres and 40 m long, made up of at least 200 lights: a piece of work that the inhabitants of Gubbio treat themselves and numerous tourists to, every year.

Life-Size Nativity (24th of December to the 10th of January) is a three dimensional nativity scene, made by a local craftsman and composed of life size figures. It was created in the very place where Saint Francis is said to have tamed the “pernicious wolf”.

World renowned masters give music lessons to students of music from all over the world. The best teachers and students then give concerts in the most evocative places of the town centre.
Classical Theatre Season (July and August)
Theatrical performances of classical authors held in the impressive roman amphitheatre.
Gubbio Summer (all July)- Classical performances inside the splendid medieval city walls.
Gubbio, No Borders ( August) – a cultural offer, proposed by the town, and starting from the year 2002, with jazz concerts and open air performances by the best italian Musicians.
