Simbolizing the conquist of water, the Fontana Maggiore, created by Giovanni and Nicola Pisano in the XIII century, stands in piazza IV Novembre. Five regal roads, standing for the power of the ancient corporations and the mendicant orders leave from the Etruscan city gates.
The Rocca Paolina built in 1540 and representing the power of the pope, required, for its construction the demolition of roads and buildings, and for this reason, after the anexing to the Reign of Italy, it was demolished as an act of liberation.
Today, running through the buried city are a series of escalotors.
Palazzo dei Priori, represents the comunal spirit of the town and was built between the XIII and XV century. In the piazza it rises up like a gigantic bastion built of square stones.
