Castello di Petrata

Bevagna and Montefalco, about 29 and 42 km from Petrata Castle respectively.

From Petrata Castle you go down into the valley and follow the signs for Foligno. Take the SS 75 in the Foligno direction and get off at Foligno Nord (North Foligno). Follow the signs for Bevagna and Montefalco.
Bevagna has Roman origins even though it has clearly undergone the influence of the medieval period. Worth visiting are the Gothic Palace of San Silvestro in piazza Silvestri. And the palace of Saint Michael Archangel. The medieval doors of the city have been well conserved thanks to the many works of restoration that have been performed, among which, that of 1797 on Porta SanVenanzo. As well as these medieval features you can see more ancient traces like the remains of a temple from the II century d.C. over which the medieval church named Madonna della Neve ( the Madonna of the Snow) was later built.
Montefalco is in a dominant position, from which you can admire the spacious panorama of the Umbrian countryside. Among the more important buildings to visit are the municipal building dating from the 13th century, the church of San Bartolomeo, of romanic origin, the church of Santa Chiara, where many examples of the Umbrian School can be found. The National Gallery is to be found inside the church of Saint Francis, which dates back to the 14th century, where there is also a Nativity scene by Perugino and a cycle of frescoes by Benozzo Bozzoli.
One of the town’s most important products is the famous Sagrantino wine, which is celebrated in August at the wine festival.
