The Marmore Waterfalls is an artificial hydraulics system of Roman origin; the river Velino, in fact , spread out in a large area of marsh, which was swampy and unhealthy. So in order to make these waters flow, the Romans had a canal dug, bringing the water to the Marmore cliff, from which it was allowed to fall, from a total height of 165 metres, to the underlying Nero river. The water of the falls have been used for over 50 years in the hydroelectrical station of Galleto.
